It all started at the age of 7. That’s when this little kid called Ivo came in touch with 2 turntables and a mixer. It was at a birthday party, where one of his cousins was dj-ing. He admired what his cousin was doing with the records (blending, scratching, cutting). Through the years he was using every record that he found around the house and tried to scratch with his moms old skool turntable.

Growing up in a family that loves music, Ivo connected with different types of music. From his uncle (R. I. P.) playing Rhythm & Blues records, by artists such as Otis Redding and Percy Sledge, to his older brother listening to late 80’s, early 90’s Hip Hop tracks, like ‘Rebel with out a pause’ from Public Enemy, Roxanne Shanté’s ‘Go on Girl’ and his all time personal favourite Das EFX’s ‘They Want EFX’. Most of the time growing up Ivo mostly listened to Hip Hop music, but that wasn’t what got him to start playing records.

At the age of 15 he bought his first records (Black Men United – U will Know & Zhané – Shame). From that time he knew almost all the basic stuff that he needed to know. Around that time he came in touch with long-time friend Jimmy (Dj Original). Who was spinning for 2 years at that time. Jimmy learned him the things that he didn’t knew and at the same time we came in touch with Dj Kid. Who took them under his wing, helping him become the Dj that he is today.

Flava doesn’t call himself a hip hop Dj. He considers himself as an R&B Dj, mostly influenced by Hip Hop music. “In my view I always play 'good' music. What kind of style or genre it may be doesn't matter, as long as it sounds good in my ears.”
At the young age of 24 Ivo (Flava) is still discovering all types of music, from classic Breaks to Funk to Pop to House music. “For me it’s still a learning process to know where all the hits from now originally come from. I got a love for music and that’s something that I will have for the rest of my life.”
